New notecards now available at the Food Shop in Peterborough

Notecards from my artwork are now available at the Peterborough Food Shop, 374 Water Street. The images are taken from the collages in my series Pioneer Women and Paper Patchwork as well as landscapes, and a new edition of vegetable paintings, very appropriate for a store that specializes in local produce. Great for your gardening friends.

Artist draws inspiration from Georgian Bay

by Nikki Cole

NORTH SIMCOE – Looking out the window of the 100-year-old former boathouse that serves as her studio overlooking Georgian Bay, it’s plain to see where Elisabeth Bacque gets her inspiration.

The Penetanguishene artist’s work will be on display at the Huronia Museum from May 11 to June 28 for an exhibit featuring paintings of her family, canoe trips, travels, gardens and scarecrows. The scenery around her home on the shores of the Georgian Bay, as well as landscapes of the Bahamas, where she spends her winters, will also figure prominently.

“I love colour, so I try to pick (subjects) with lots of different colours,” said Bacque, who worked as an art teacher with the North York School Board before moving to the family cottage in 1997.

City Hall tour of renovations opens architect’s daughter’s eyes: Elisabeth Bacque gets to see her father Ferninand Marani’s work from a new perspective

by Lois Tuffin

(PETERBOROUGH) For years, Elisabeth Bacque has been compiling pictures of her father Ferninand Marani’s architectural works. Yesterday, she had a chance to see behind the scenes of one of his creations.

With Peterborough City Hall under extensive renovation, Mrs. Bacque peered where walls used to cover the clay tiles, old plumbing and rusted metal concrete forms above the council chamber.

“This is all an eye opener to me,” she said during a brief tour of the gutted room.
